Spain and Greece ready for great match – 2011 CEV Men’s Volleyball League
Following the four-day break, men’s national volleyball teams from Spain and Greece are once again set to meet today on Friday, June 17. The two teams are playing in Pool B of the 2011 CEV Volleyball European League.
In the first spell of the league round, they played two matches. Spain proved to be the better side and claimed both matches, while Greek side could only capture one set. The Spaniards defeated the opponents on their home soil as Greece served as the host
country. This time around, the Spanish city of Vilanova I la Geltrú is ready to set the field of play.
According to the set pattern by the Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV), Spain will host two matches on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The home team is tipped to do well in the coming matches against Greece. The Spaniards defeated the Greeks in
the previous two matches with a great display and wonderful game-play. Greeks were unable to get out of their slump and remained unsuccessful. In the first match, Greece put up a bit of resistance and claimed one set but overall failed to create a scare. The
second match was totally dominated by Spaniards as they made a clean sweep.
Spain not only has the advantage of previous wins but the team is enjoying a great rhythm. Moreover, the home squad will be equipped with the enormous emotional support of local fans. Familiar conditions and psychological advantage also speak in the favour
of Spaniards. The head coach Fernando Munoz has carefully assembled the team, which has a great mix of experienced and young players. The roster of Spanish team is as follows:
VICIANA MERA, Victor Manuel ( ESP) Setter HERNAN, Guillermo ( ESP) Setter PEREZ, Iban ( ESP) Opposite NODA, Sergio ( ESP) Opposite ROCAMORA , Daniel ( ESP) Opposite FERNANDEZ , Jorge ( ESP) Middle-blocker LLENAS, Francesc ( ESP) Libero 1 SUGRANES MARTINEZ, José Miguel ( ESP) Middle-blocker GARCIA-TORRES, Julian (C) ( ESP) Middle-blocker DELGADO ESCRIBANO, Gustavo ( ESP) Wing-spiker RODRIGUEZ , Francisco José ( ESP) Wing-spiker PALHARINI, Marlon Rafael ( ESP) Wing-spiker
The mentor of Spanish team is confident about his team-line. He is hopeful that Spain will continue with success in the next matches. Overall, Spain is the leading team of Pool B, which consists of Greece, Austria, Spain and the Netherlands. The Spanish
hotshots have played six matches of the league round so far and accumulated a record of 5-1.
Spanish team opened the 2011 CEV Volleyball League with a great win over the Dutch team in the first match. Nonetheless, Netherlands hit back strongly in the following match and successfully took revenge from Spain. Afterwards, Spain enjoyed two consecutive
victories against the Austrian team. Austria couldn’t cope with the power of Spaniards and dropped both matches.
On the other hand, Greece appeared in equal number of matches but couldn’t give out any memorable performances. They won two out of six matches and earned seven points. They are currently ranked as number three in Pool B. They are in dire need to perform
up to the mark and improve their ranking. Obviously they have to do it the hard way as Spanish team is fully prepared for the kill.
