Spain announce final Fifa World Cup squad

Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has named three uncapped players in his 23-man squad for the World Cup finals in South Africa.

Barcelona duo Víctor Valdés and Pedro Rodríguez and Athletic Bilbao’s 21-year-old midfielder Javi Martínez are the three who have made the cut, while the likes of Euro 2008 winners Marcos Senna, Santi Cazorla and Dani Güiza have missed out.

Del Bosque has included Liverpool striker Fernando Torres in the party despite doubts over the 26-year-old’s fitness, while Arsenal’s Cesc Fàbregas makes the squad amid mounting rumours surrounding an imminent move to La Liga champions Barcelona.

If the midfielder does complete the transfer before the finals, he will become the ninth Barcelona player in the 23, joining the forward David Villa – who will complete his switch from Valencia in the coming days. Fifteen of the party were part of Spain’s Euro 2008 winning squad.

World Cup favourites Spain face Switzerland in their first Group H match on June 16th in Durban, before facing Honduras and Chile.
