Spain clashes with Austria: Week 2 - 2011 CEV Volleyball European League
Spain finished the first week at a loss of one match, while playing away from home in the 2011 CEV European League. Next up, the Spaniards return home and are scheduled to resume their games on Friday, June 3. This time around, Spain would be featured as
the home team in the Spanish city of Guadalajara. On the other side of the court, the Austrian men will take their positions. The two teams will play two matches on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
The Men’s National Volleyball Team of Spain opened the 2011 CEV European Volleyball League last week. They were challenged by the tough Dutch team in two matches in the first week. The Netherlands took full advantage of the home crowd and familiar court.
They demonstrated a great performance and defeated Spain in the opening match in straight sets. However, the Spaniards hit the equaliser in the second match and took revenge from theor Dutch rivals. Spain also pulled off success in consecutive sets.
The first encounter of Spain and Austria is set to begin with the following official rosters:

Garcia-Torres, Julian (C) ( ESP) Middle-blocker Fernandez , Jorge ( ESP) Middle-blocker Sugranes Martinez, José Miguel ( ESP) Middle-blocker Noda, Sergio ( ESP) Opposite Delgado Escribano, Gustavo ( ESP) Wing-spiker Rodriguez , Francisco José ( ESP) Wing-spiker Rocamora , Daniel ( ESP) Opposite Llenas, Francesc ( ESP) Libero 1 Perez, Iban ( ESP) Opposite Palharini, Marlon Rafael ( ESP) Wing-spiker Hernan, Guillermo ( ESP) Setter Viciana Mera, Victor Manuel ( ESP) Setter
On the other hand, the mentor of Austrian team has carefully assembled his team with following players:

Ichovski , Philip ( AUT) Middle-blocker Reiser, Gerald ( AUT) Middle-blocker Wohlfahrtstätter, Peter ( AUT) Middle-blocker Schneider, Philip ( AUT) Wing-spiker Laure, Frederick ( AUT) Wing-spiker Laimer, Michael ( AUT) Opposite Zass, Thomas ( AUT) Opposite Kienbauer, Mathias ( AUT) Libero 1 Schweighofer, Sebastian ( AUT) Wing-spiker Frühbauer, Simon Claudio ( AUT) Wing-spiker Binder, Oliver (C) ( AUT) Setter Weber, Lukas ( AUT) Setter
The Austrian team has been unsuccessful in the first two matches. The Greeks proved to be too strong for them and claimed both matches against Austria. It certainly provides Spain a psychological advantage over Austria. However, Austria has some experienced
players, who can create a lot of buzz on the court. Therefore, the Spanish team is probably not taking them lightly.
The head coach of the Spanish men’s team, Fernando Munoz, disclosed his thoughts about the game plan. He also talked about the visitors and commented, “We have been working with a great atmosphere and enthusiasm. We want to improve and claim two important
victories this weekend. We know Austria has experienced a tremendous improvement in the past years. During the club season they got together a large group preparing for the next European Championship, and now, Austria has included more experienced players,
becoming an even stronger team”.
Moreover, Munoz is fully aware of the impact of the fans’ support in any match. He urged the local fans to come out and support their team. He remembered the memories of last year and assured observers that his team will definitely try to pay back fans with
a great performance. The team is eying the six points at the end of the round and Munoz is sure his squad will live up to expectaions.
The clock is ticking down swiftly and soon the two teams will take centre stage. Check back for updates on the match and the CEV Volleyball league on Bettor.com
