Spain conquers Women’s 4x200m freestyle relay title: 2011 Dutch Open Long Course Nationals
Day three of the 2011 Dutch Open Long Course Nationals saw a thrilling swim in Eindhoven, Netherlands, on Sunday, December 4. Spain went on to win the Women’s 4x200m freestyle relay title, while Netherlands grabbed Men’s 4x200m freestyle relay crown.
Spain’s team of Melanie Costa Schmid, Patricia Castro Ortega, Erika Villaecija Garcia and Mireia Belmonte Garcia produced a versatile swim in the pool and took home the Women’s 4x200m freestyle relay title by banging the finishing barricade in a winning time of 8 minutes and 00.69 seconds.
In the meantime, the silver title was clinched by Netherlands’ quartet of Esmee Vermeulen, Rieneke Terink, Andrea Kneppers and Elise Bouwens in an impressive mark of 8 minutes and 03.89 seconds. The bronze title went to Ireland’s group of four swimmers including Sycerika McMahon, Bethany Carson, Melanie Nocher and Clare Dawson in a time of 8 minutes and 10.97 seconds.
On the other hand, the Men’s 200m freestyle relay title was taken over by Netherlands’ Dion Dreesens, Jurjen Willemsen, Joost Reijns and Arjen van der Meulen in a triumphant blot of 7 minutes and 21.01 seconds. City of Cardiff got silver title in the respective race by bashing the finishing divider in a time of 7 minutes and 30.07 seconds, while University of Bath claimed bronze medal in a time of 7 minutes and 34.38 seconds.
Sergey Fesikov took home the Men's 50m butterfly title in a thrilling mark of 23.91 seconds. Mike Cavic earned silver title in the respective meet by banging the finishing wall in a time of 23.93 seconds, whereas, the bronze title went to Evgeny Korotyshkin in a mark of 23.95 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Men’s 50m breast-stroke title was taken over by Hendrik Feldwehr in a winning time of 27.82 seconds. The swim fell short of his previous best meet record of 27.34 seconds, set back at the German Nationals, in June. The silver title was clinched by Giacomo Perez Dortona in a time of 28.09 seconds, while the bronze title went to Lennart Stekelenburg in a mark of 28.17 seconds.
Sebastiaan Verschuren captured the Men's 100m freestyle title by banging the finishing divider in a time of 48.60 seconds. Meanwhile, Stefan Nystrand took home the silver title in the respective race by bashing the finishing barricade in a mark of 48.91 seconds and the bronze title went to Florent Manaudou in a time of 49.40 seconds.
In addition, Duane Da Roche Marce won Women’s 100m back-stroke title in a time of 1 minute and 00.92 seconds. In the meantime, Sharon van Rouwendaal finished second in a time of 1 minute and 01.15 seconds. Karin Prinsloo settled at third spot in a time of 1 minute and 01.73 seconds.
The 2011 Dutch Open Long Course Nationals is offering a great opportunity to all young guns of Netherlands to prepare themselves hard for their upcoming meets.
