Spain defeats Estonia by 3-1 in a CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship match
The 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship – Men is currently under way in Czech Republic.
The Czech city of Zdar nad Sazavou is playing host to the tournament. The opening matches of the tournament saw six teams making a show of their skills on April 12. The last match of the day was played between the Spanish squad as well as Estonia.
The Spanish and the Estonians competed with each other for four sets at the end of which the victory went to the Spanish side. Despite the fact that Estonia lost the game, they did not give up and kept the fight alive for most part of the match. The score
board showed the following final set scores at the end of the day: 25-20, 25-21, 21-25 and 25-18.
The head coach of the Estonian squad, Urmas Tali, shared his views on the match by making the following comments, “We did not catch a good start at all and made a way too many mistakes losing the first and second sets quite easily. We found our best play
in the third set that we eventually won but still it was not enough to bring it home in the end.”
On the other hand, the head coach of the Spanish side, Ricardo Maldonado, expressed himself by giving the following statements, “We started well but Estonia gradually got into the game. We scored this win by playing a good fourth set where we did a good
job in defense as well as with our setter.”
The opening set of the match took some time to let a dominant team to emerge as the initial part saw a couple of lead changes. However, as the frame progressed, the Spanish team was able to take the lead for themselves and secure the first set of the game
at 25-20.
The second set of the game was more competitive than the first one as neither of the teams was giving up control and battling on to secure a win. However, the Spanish continued to win as they bagged the second frame too. The third set went to Estonia but
Spain sealed the deal on the fourth set and won the game.
