Spain defeats France by 3-2 in Pool F match: FIVB Boy’s Youth World Championship
Spain and France locked horns in the second round of the FIVB Boy’s Youth World Championship on August 25, in Bahia Blanca, Argentina. At the end of the day, it was the Spanish side that was able to emerge as victors after a five set long battle.
The final set scores were as follows: 25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 15-25 and 15-10.
The first set of the match was competitive as both the sides fought hard to get a bit of an edge over the other team. However, it was the Spanish squad that was able to scrap together a win in the end. The opening set win got the Spanish going because of
which they were able to outperform the French in the second set and win by a significant margin. The loss of the first two sets triggered the French into action and they ended up bagging the third as well as the fourth sets. However, the final set of the game
had Brazil written all over it from the start.
The coach of the Spanish team, Ricardo Maldonando, expressed himself in these words when the match had reached its close: "We’ve known that the match was going to be a difficult one because we were playing the vice champions of Europe. Their serves complicated
our reception and pour our attack was very predictable so they prepared well for the blocking opportunities.”
On the other hand, the French coach Jean-Manuel Leprovost shared his views in the following manner: “Congratulations to Spain for the match. We tried to change our history of this year because we have lost all our matches to Spain. I wish the best to the
team of Spain as I think they will be in the next round of the championship.”
The first technical time out of the opening set came with the French leading at 8-7, an advantage that they lost to the Spanish by the time the second technical time out was reached at 16-15. The match remained close but ended up with Spain bagging a win
at 25-22.
The Spanish had the lead early on in the second set but France was able to tie the match at 8-8. Spain did not let the French move up ahead and got into a leading position at 16-10. After this point, France kept trailing behind as Spain bagged a win at 25-17.
The third set saw the French as a rejuvenated team. They got the lead at 8-2 and kept the advantage till 16-8. Brazil kept trailing behind as the French bagged a win at 25-18. The fourth set unfolded in the same way as the third one but at a faster pace
that allowed France to earn another win at 25-15. The Spanish were leading the fifth set at 8-2 and took the advantage all the way to a 15-10 win.
Their recent win has enabled the Spanish to earn five points in Pool F while the French are tagging behind with four points.
