Spain defeats Hungary in 2012 CEV Volleyball European League – Women match
The Serbian city of Subotica played host to the pool play matches of the 2012 CEV Volleyball European League – Women on June 3, Sunday.
The venue of the competitions was the Dudova Suma sports hall. One of the matches took place between Hungary and Spain which ended in a win for the Spanish side by 3-1.
It took Spain a total of 100 minutes to secure a win at the following final set scores: 25-18, 20-25, 25-21, and 25-16.
The head coach of the Spanish side, Francisco Manuel Hervas, shared his happiness at the win in the following words, “We started well but then we had too many ups and downs. Anyway, I am satisfied with this win and I think that in the next rounds we can
play even better than we did here in Subotica.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Hungarian side, Zoltan Jokay, gave the following comments at the loss of his team, “I am satisfied with the performance of my players in the first two sets, especially with what we did in reception. Afterwards, we ran
out of fuel and we totally surrendered in the last set. Next week we play at home and our minimum goal is to win at least one match.”
The loss of the match did not stop the Hungarian player Rita Liliom from scoring a total of 23 points for her team and securing the title of being the top scorer of the match. On the other hand, the highest numbers of points scored by Spain were 13, a tally
that was made both by Ana Mirtha Correa and Encarnacion Garcia Bonilla.
The opening frame started off with the Spanish taking the lead early on and sticking to their advantage all through.
On the other hand, the Hungarians kept trailing behind all through as Spain sealed the deal at 25-18. The Hungarians managed to pull up their game in the second set and make the match reach a tie by bagging the second set at 25-20.
However, the Spanish side did not leave any room for the Hungarians to slip past in the third and the fourth sets which were grabbed by Spain at 25-21 and 25-16 respectively.
