I'm going to Spain next summer, and I recentally heard that Spainish people are supposed to dress up when they go shopping or out to eat...no jeans allowed. Does anyone know if this is really true? And what if you did wear jeans?

  1. Hi!

No, that's not true. The "look" depends on what you are going to do and where you're going. If you go to a good restaurant, then yes, we usually dress up, but if you go for tapas, then you can dress as you like.

There are different ways to wear jeans, as you know.. it's not the same to wear jeans with a tanktop and high heels than with trainers and a t-shirt... There's not a specific issue about jeans... it all depends on where you go.

What you can have problems however, is with trainers. There a lot of places, discos and pubs especially, where entry is not allowed with trainers. So, I don't recommend to wear them, if you want to be sure that you'll enter all pubs!

    Have a nice journey!!!

  2. Spaniards do dress nicely to go out but they also wear jeans!!I mean jeans go with anything. As long as you got a nice shirt (Tommy, Ralph, Lacoste, etc.)and nice pair of shoes, you´re good to go to a club or restaurant.(of course the jeans better not be stone washed!!) a good pair of Levis would do..

    Enjoy...

  3. I have never been refused entry but friends who dressed up like American tourists with shorts & cameras were in Madrid.

Do not dress for the beach in madrid or away from the beach.

People dress smartly to go to the Palau de la Musica in BCN. Men in suits / Americanas and ladies in legs, fur coats.

    Chinos rather than jeans.

    Smart casual is always better.

  4. They do dress nicely, but ive been there dozenz of times and it all depends on where they are going you usually see spaniards walking around during the day really casually dressed but at late afternoon they tend to go out dressed nicer, you can wear jeans the only thing is that probably at night most restaurants and clubs wont let you in wearing jeans or shorts, but during the day its alright, hope you enjoy

  5. I was there "many" years ago and this was true--to a point.  I am strictly a jeans person.  I do remember we were never denied entry anywhere but cannot remember what we wore.  I do remember that if we wore jeans,  we were looked at a lot.  You might contact a travel agency or AAA and find out more.  Just a thought.  Good Luck and have fun.  I enjoyed it.

  6. well i wore jeans there and went to dinner loads of times never had any hassle
