Spain earns 8th spot by defeating Romania: Day 13 – European Water Polo Championships
Spanish team excelled in the Men’s classification round for seventh-eighth position and defeated Romania for seventh place on thirteenth day of the 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Saturday, January 28 at the Pieter van
den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
The Spanish squad faced ruthless aggression of their challenging team throughout the four-quarter game, but they managed to triumph over Romania with a lead of one point. Spain rejoiced a stupendous 9-8 win over Romanian team in the 32-minute match.
The championship is being conducted by European aquatic sports managing body, Ligue Europeenne de Natation (LEN). These championships are of noteworthy value, as these will project the standings of all international teams at the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic
Games.
The first quarter saw smothering efforts of Spanish team, which overwhelmed Romania’s lone goal effort by marking two goals on the scorecard and the score remained 2-1 after the first round.
The same continued in the second quarter, where Romania failed to advance on the points table and once again notched up one goal. On the other hand, Spanish team showed consistency in their performance and yet again accomplished two goals, making the score
4-2 after the initial half.
The situation reversed in the third quarter, where Romanian squad proved their mettle by obstructing almost all goal attempts of their challenging team. They scored three goals while Spain managed to score a single goal only and the score went up to 5-5
after the third round.
With everything dependent on the fourth quarter, the audience was thrilled by the performance of both teams. Romanian squad passed the ball in their opponent’s cage three times, but their effort was overpowered by Spain’s achievement of four goals. With
their commendable effort in the classification match, Spain commemorated victory by a lead of one point.
Marc Minguell of Spain was the highest goal scorer of the match as he marked six goals and played an exceptional role in his team’s success.
Furthermore, the crowd appreciated gruelling efforts of both squads while Spain received a huge round of applause for their phenomenal win in the game.
