who would have ever predicted that against China? and not even with their n°1 in medina garrigues either. i was extremely impressed with the strong performance of nuria llagostera vives--she truly carried that team and did not drop a set. will they have a chance in h**l against russia though?

  1. I know, go figure.  The Chinese didn't have their best singles player though, Na Li, and the ones they did have obviously crumbled under the pressure.  Well, it looks like Russia will be hoisting the Fed Cup trophy yet again.

  2. Yes, it was a very impressive win over China.  Spain played great, and Nuria Llagostera Vives really is playing well again and should be moving up the rankings with a few more good tournaments under her belt.

And NO.  Spain will not have any chance in the final against Russia.  Russia has about five or six players higher in the rankings than Spain's number one Anabel Medina Garrigues.  Sharapova, Kuznetsova, Chakvetadze, Zvonareva, Safina, Kirilenko, Dementieva, and Petrova are all above any of Spain's players.

It was a great run to the final, but it looks like Russia will claim their second straight Fed-Cup title and fourth in five years.

  3. Oh yeah, that was impressive... I thought China can make it all the way to the final. But the Russians will certainly be the heavy favorites against Spain for the title - Russia's captain is already thinking of putting up both Sharapova and Kuznetsova to lead the Russian Team (i hope they'll both play... that would be exciting!)

  4. i agree

  5. yes! they won against china.. they will meet russia in the finals! i hope russia wins and maria plays in the finals! :)
