Spain outshine Germany in preliminary round, Group B: Day three – European Water Polo Championships
The Spanish squad outshined German team in their foremost Women’s water polo match of Group ‘B’ on day three of the 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Wednesday, January 18 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
The arena enjoyed scintillating efforts of Spanish team, which halted most efforts of German team to grab their win in the 32-minute game. The Germans faced their first defeat of the championship at the hands of Spain as the score was 22-12 after the four-quarter
game.
Spain had absolutely no trouble in claiming victory over their opponent team as they proved their supremacy from the beginning of the match. The Spanish players scored seven goals in the first quarter while the Germans managed to show three goals on the
scorecard by the end of first round and the score remained 7-3.
The German team elevated their efforts in the second quarter and accomplished three goals. Their effort was followed by Spanish team, which also notched up three goals in the tournament and regardless of their eye-catching attempts, they failed to dominate
the second round. The score went up to 10-6 after the first half.
In the third round, Spain made no mistake and superseded Germany by notching up seven goals in just eight minutes. On the other hand, German team was able to score four goals only, which were inadequate for placing them in strong position and the round ended
with a score of 17-10.
The same continued in the final quarter, where Germany managed to elevate their score by just two fractions. Once again, their effort was strongly overwhelmed by Spanish players, who scored five goals in the final round and augmented their lead to 10 goals.
