Spain overwhelms Netherlands in semi-final: Day twelve – European Water Polo Championships
Spanish national squad overwhelmed Netherlands in the Men’s semi-final round for seventh- tenth position on day twelve of the continued 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Friday, January 27 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband
Swim Stadium.
The Spanish team made no mistake and defeated their opposing team by a margin of five goals. The Dutch squad tried to prove their mettle but suffered loss at the hands of Spain with a 14-9 defeat in the four-quarter game.
The European Championships are of central importance to all players, as these precede the 2012 London Olympic Games and will project positions of all teams at the mega stage of sports.
With their astonishing skills, Spanish team accomplished six goals while Netherlands managed to occupy just three goals and the score remained 6-3 after the first quarter
The second quarter saw ruthless aggression of Spanish squad that showed no mercy to their rival team and kept on enhancing their points throughout the round. With their persistent efforts, Spain blocked all efforts of Dutch players and ascended on the scorecard
by gaining four goals, making the score 10-3 after the first half.
The tables turned in the third quarter, where Dutch team geared up their efforts and tried to improve their position by clinching four goals. In contrast, Spain managed to add two goals to their points table but sustained their lead as the score went up
to 12-7 after the third round.
The fourth quarter was quite decisive where Netherlands needed five goals to level the score, but they failed and scored just two goals. On the other hand, Spanish team augmented their score by two goals and rejoiced victory over their rival squad with a
lead of five goals.
Xavier Garcia of Spain notched five goals and was declared man of the match for playing a firm role in his team’s success. In addition, Spain is now set to play against Romania in the classification round for seventh position while Netherlands will contest
with Croatia for the ninth position.
Furthermore, the championship will end on January 29 after the completion of all scheduled matches.
