Spain thrash Scotland by 6-3: Hockey News
Spain team defeated Scotland by 6-3 in a match at invitational Four Nations Tournament, which is being played at Sportscotland National Centre, Inverclyde, Scotland on June 12, 2011.
The victory was quite dominant for the Spanish side. The match was played in tough weather conditions as there had been raining during the entire match, but the first half was more badly affected.
The Scottish side started the first half in a thrilling action and shocked the Spanish team when they opened their account in the 11th minute. Chris Grassick was the man with an astonishing field goal. However, the Spanish side did replied well
just after five minutes of the against-goal, when Roc Oliva scored the equaliser for Spain in 16th minute by deceiving Mark Fulton, the Scottish goal-keeper and levelling the score at 1-1.
However, the Scottish men kept up the similar pace and maintained a good pressure on Spain. They created a few good chances, but those were tackled beautifully by the Spanish defenders and at the same time the Scottish goal-keeper remained too busy in saving
some good shots from the Spanish team.
Minutes before the end of first half, the Scottish men did it again as they held their nerves which paid them well. Before they scored the second goal, two of their efforts were greatly saved by the Spanish outfit. But they consistently continued their efforts
and at the third penalty-corner, they managed to convert a chance into a beautiful goal. Spain did try hard to equalise the score, but remained unlucky as one of their better chances was saved by the Scotland's goalie. The score was 2-1 to Scotland at the
end of the first half.
The second half was a complete show by the Spanish men as they scored five goals in it, whereas the Scottish team could manage to score only a single goal in the second half of the game. It spoke entirely the opposite story of the first half where the Scottish
men looked more dominant.
The second half started with the dominance of Spain, although Scotland scored their third goal prior to the Spanish fireworks, but after that they became bewildered and remained as mere spectators.
The Spanish men displayed their undoubted class by picking up the pace, showing great stick work and their dribbling skills led them to stunning victory. They scored five goals in just 35 minutes, a goal after every seven minutes, which showed their class
and level. The match concluded at 6-3 in favour of Spain.
