Spain upsets Turkey in the Men’s Quarterfinal: Day ten – European Water Polo Championships
Spanish squad met expectations of their fans by upsetting Turkey in the Men’s Quarterfinal round for 7th-12th position on day ten of the continued 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Wednesday, January
25 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
The Spanish players showered their ruthless aggression throughout the four-quarter game and gave no chance to Turkish team to retaliate. They claimed victory over Turkey by a significant lead of twelve goals and enjoyed a 16-4 victory over their challenging
team.
With the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games, the European Championships are of substantial importance as these give an opportunity to all international players to overcome their defects before the battle royal.
The match was dominated by Spanish team from the beginning. They smothered all struggles of their opposing team and scored five goals in the first round. In contrast, Turkey failed to show any advancement on the points table and the score remained 5-0 after
the first quarter.
The second quarter saw elevated efforts of Turkish team, which tried to fight back and notched up three goals. Nevertheless, their effort could not make any substantial improvement as Spanish team also accomplished four goals and extended their lead to six
goals, fabricating the score 9-3 after the first half.
In the meantime, Spanish players yet again demonstrated their noticeable efforts and ascended on the points table by clinching three goals. On the other hand, Turkish squad was unable to improve their points and the score remained 12-3 after the third round.
Unsurprisingly, Spain also excelled in the fourth quarter by achieving four goals while Turkey marked just one goal and lost the match by a margin of twelve points.
Felipe Perrone of Spain became the spotlight of arena as he chipped in four goals and played a major role in his team’s victory.
Furthermore, Spain is now set to compete with Netherlands in the semi-final round for 7th-10th position while Turkey will play against Macedonia in the classification match for 11th position on Friday, January 27. In addition,
the session ended after the completion of all scheduled events.
