Spain will face Czech Republic in the final of Davis Cup 2012 – Tennis News
Davis Cup defending champion, Team Spain has booked a spot in the title match once again and this time it will face the talented Czech squad for glory. Spain was victorious against USA in the semi-final tie last weekend, whilst
Czech tennis professionals hunted down the home favourite Argentine side to reach the final of the coveted ITF team event.
Spain has made it to its sixth Davis Cup final in the last 10 years and is bidding very strongly to win the big match this season once again. The highly anticipated final will be played from 16th to 18th of
November in Czech Republic.
Team Spain registered a thumping 3-1 victory over the American squad led by John Isner in the semi-final crunch game. World number five, David Ferrer, led the attack himself and won the two singles rubbers to take his side across
victory. News are in the air that the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, will make his long-awaited comeback in the final of the Davis Cup but if he doesn’t, responsibility will again lie on the shoulders of Ferrer. World number 12, Nicolas Almagro, is also the other
key player in the Spanish squad and will be presenting his brilliant skills to retain the championship title.
"We will monitor the players over the coming weeks, talk to all those we think appropriate, and go and see what condition they are in and then choose the players we think appropriate," said Alex Corretja, Spain’s Davis Cup team
captain. “We always hope to count on everyone and obviously Rafa is the same as everyone else."
Spain facing Czech Republic in the final of the Davis Cup is the re-match of the 2009 final, when the Spaniards became the champions on their home soil. This time they will have to face the crafty Czechs under their favourable
conditions and it will not be an easy mission for them. World number six, Tomas Berdych, will be the spearhead of Team Czech and the fiercest opponent for the Spaniards to contain. He played a pivotal role in his team’s victory over the last year’s runner-up
Argentine squad in the semis last weekend.
