The Italian coach has bemoaned Zenit St. Petersburg’s latest defeat in the UEFA Champions League group stage match against Malaga CF at Estadio La Rosaleda
Zenit St. Petersburg head coach, Luciano Spalletti, has analyzed his team’s defeat in the opening match of the UEFA Champions League against the Spanish outfit, Malaga CF, on Tuesday.
The hosts dominated most of the match and terrorized the away team’s defence after scoring twice in the first-half while scoring the last goal of the match on 76th minute.
And while the football analysts have blasted http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aleksandr-Anyukov-c4549 for an inconsistent performance against the Anchovies, Spalletti refused to blame the 29-year-old alone, insisting that all the Meshki defenders deserve a stick after
their below par performance.
Spalletti offered no excuse for their defeat despite the fact that Zenit played with three defenders for most of first-half as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vladimir-Bystrov-c36328 on 40th
minute.
“There is no need to focus on just Anyukov, because you cannot depend upon one player for the defensive mistakes. Malaga played well and we were not ready for this. Of course, I am responsible for what happened because I failed
to prepare my team for it.”
“When the score was 0:2, my team responded well and had some chances. However, they failed to convert them. And in a situation where you fail to score, the opponent gets a chance. But we need to move on and worker harder as we
don’t have more room for error.” The Russian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The fact that the defending Russian Premier League champions recorded their third defeat in four matches disappoints Spalletti, who admitted that Zenit are going through a difficult time after losing confidence on the field.
The former Udinese coach insisted that these lesions, as in the championship and the Champions League, will give them an opportunity to get back on track. He urged his team to improve defensively if they are to get good results
in upcoming matches of the continental tournament.
The St. Petersburg club will now host Italian giants, AC Milan, in the upcoming group stage match on 3rd October, 2012.
