Question:

Spandex Uniforms?

Our team is thinking about getting spandex uniforms for this season. For the past few years we've worn old basketball uniforms, so they were loose. So is spandex any good? What kind of advantages would we have? Do you think they would be exceptable for a Catholic School team?

  1. I also go to a Catholic school and we were spandex, so it would be exceptable well at least for me. Spandex helps you run in volleyball and it doesn't ride up. Spandex are pretty comfortable.

  2. Spandex is definitely the way to go. The allow for more movement (because they are strechey) and they are also clingier, which means they won't touch the net and cause you to lose the point, like basketball shorts might. Also, they look really hot! You also have that intimidation factor, that you look like a real vball team, not the leftover basketball team. I think it is totally acceptable, because that is proper volleyball attire, regardless of whether you are catholic or not. Look at it this way: if you can wear the short skirts, why not short shorts?

  3. Pepperdine University did a study with their volleyball team players and tested their jumping ability with and without compression shorts (what we call spandex for men). The study concluded that players were able to jump higher wearing compression shorts than they were able to jump wearing regular underwear. Men had better improvement than women, and men that wore a size smaller than they normally would had the best results.

The study stated three possible explanations for these improvments.

    1. The compression shorts help to keep the muscles warmer and therfore more efficient.

    2. The compression shorts help the brain to be more aware of what the legs are doing and can therfore be more aware of reproducing the motions that gave you the best jump.

    3. The compression shorts keep the muscles closer to the postion they would be in when they tense up for running or jumping. If you've seen video of a sprinter in slow motion, you would see how the muscle of the leg that is moving through the air are loose and jiggling, when that foot comes in contact with the ground, those muscle snap to a very tight stiff position. By eliminating how much the muscles of the leg wobble around, it is thought that it may make the muscle more efficient.

I have the write up on it if anyone wants it.

I have been using them for so long I can't honestly tell you if they work for me anymore. I thought they did when I first started wearing them about 12 years ago. The odd time that I forget them I feel very different on the court.

One thing they have done though is save me a lot of money in underwear. I found sports to be very hard on the inner thighs of boxer brief underwear. My $35 comression shorts last at least 5 years where as my $25 boxer briefs weren't even lasting a year.

  4. yes there better then the things duh it would b more nice looking duh hot girls

  5. It's SO good. Our team got it and we played a lot better. We didn't have to worry about those baggy b-ball shorts when we would spike or block.

    Good Luck!

  6. i like watching my girl playing volleyball in her spandex.......hahaha

  7. Spandex definitely will give you an advantage over the basketball uniforms.  They are snug to your body, so there is no worrying about them riding up or getting into the net.  They also make it much easier to dive on the floor than the basketball shorts, as looser shorts often tend to stick to the floor rather than the body, making it much more uncomfortable.  And as far as it being acceptable, there is nothing wrong with them at all.  I go to a Catholic school as well, and we wear spandex.  I'm not going to lie, the guys come to our games mostly to see us in spandex.  However, nobody sees it as tasteless.  It is a perfectly acceptable uniform for volleyball.

  8. I hate spandex, personally. Srry but they give you wedgies and feel claustrofobic to your thighs! If that's possible.

  9. Spandex pros: packed bleachers, easier to dive in, make your *** look Faaaaaaaaabulous.

Spandex cons: There's only one... If you roll them up too far,  you will get a camel toe and get booed off the court.

Word for the wise- Be aware of your v****a, no one likes to see the crease =).

    thanks for the points!

  10. advantage? youll look HOT! 'nuff said.

  11. Well, spandex are the main shorts for volleyball and overall acceptable because for clubs and higher level volleyball it's a requirement. If you're also talking about your jersey's, I've never worn completely spandex jersey. Partially spandex and polyester (or whatever material it was). Mostly you want a fitted jersey, not extremely tight but fitted, nothing too loose because it gets in the way. But yeah, spandex should be a good decision.

  12. Oh boy. If you mean short spandex, I doubt a Catholic school would be very into that. They do offer advantages such as easy movement, faster movement because b-ball shorts do slow you down, when diving they don't ride up or expose as much as with other shorts, and so on. I think they're okay. They do cause wedgies, frontal and back ones lol, so it's kind of distracting but they are good to wear and comfy usually. If you do get 'em, it's better to not where grannie panties with them because you can see lines really bad and a thong will cause irritation so wearing nothing with spandex is usually your best bet.

  13. hmm

  14. Spandex makes it easier in my opinion. They don't restrict movement as much as basketball shorts might. When you dive, you would have less chance of your shorts getting pulled off. They would be okay in a Catholic school. You can get different lengths from  4inches and I think you can get them to like 7 or 10 too. I play too, and just can't play well unless I have spandex shorts on!
