Spaniard golfer Seve Ballesteros’ health condition worsening – Golf news
Spanish golfer Seve Ballesteros, who has been fighting brain cancer, has suffered a major setback.
His family, who are with Ballesteros in the northern Spanish town of Pedrena, said that his neurological condition had suffered a severe deterioration.
Their brief statement in full read, “The Ballesteros family informs that Seve's neurological condition has suffered a severe deterioration. The family will inform accordingly about any change in his health condition and takes this opportunity of thanking
everyone for the support that both Seve and his own family have been receiving during all this time.”
Ballesteros’ sons Baldomere and Miguel and his daughter Carmen are with him at home whereas his ex wife Cameron is staying nearby. The player is a golfing legend and an inspiration to all the golfers of the world. This was evident from the previous Ryder
Cup, when a mere phone call from Ballesteros really motivated the European Ryder Cup team.
The current Ryder Cup captain, Jose Maria Olazabal playing in the Open de Espana right now is a close friend of Ballesteros. Ballesteros was actually the first person he called when Olazabal was selected as the captain. Olazabal said that the player really
inspired him and also guided him in all aspects of his playing career and his game.
Olazabal had actually visited Seve a while ago and they had a conversation on golf. While playing in the tournament, Olazabal was informed of Seve’s condition by his manager. Both Olazabal and Miguel Angel Jimenez were reported to be in tears after playing
their first two rounds together.
On October 6, 2008, Ballesteros fainted at the Madrid International Airport before boarding a flight to Germany. He was then was diagnosed with brain cancer. The Spanish player underwent four operations to remove the tumour and reduce the swelling around
the brain. Leaving the hospital, Ballesteros’ treatment continued with chemotherapy.
Ballesteros turned professional in 1979 when he was only 16. Being 54 right now, Ballesteros has won three British Open, two Masters and around 80 tournaments worldwide. Being the talented player he is and a great source of inspiration, everyone is hoping
