However, it is the inclusion of Bangor City's Les Davies that has raised eyebrows in footballing circles. Davies shared that it is a great honour to be nominated and confided that he cannot get over the excitement.

The prolific striker was nominated by Daily Post football writer, Dave Jones, and is among the running for the award whose winner will be announced on August 14 at the official website of UEFA.
The initial list that will be announced in the middle of August will reveal three players with the most votes after an initial vote conducted by 53 journalists from UEFA member associations. The three finalists will be voted back in Monaco on August 30.
