Question:

Spanish Holiday Job Names?

I recently went on holiday to Gran Canaria and stayed at the Barcelo Margaritas hotel in Playa Del Ingles.

I was wondering what the name of a job was I saw a lady doing that sounded like something I would enjoy in the future but wasnt sure what the actual job was called.

Basicly I always saw her writing and comentating the hotel activities like shuffle board and basicly translating it into English from Spanish. She also took part in some of the daily shows like the quizes, again translating some of the questions.

What is her job?

Some sort of hotel activities manager?

  1. Was she the concierge?  that sounds like what you are describing.

They need to be able to use more than their native language, and usually most of their jobs consist of telling people how to do the things they want to do, helping them to arrange activities, cabs, reservations, tickets to things like shows, things like that.  And because the two most used languages in the Canarias are English and Spanish, those would be the languages she might be using.

Concierge is a French word, and it's what we use in English.  I think the Spanish is pretty close to it.  Here it is:  conserje.

Btw, according to freetranslation, a concierge (french) is a janitor (english!) so the usage, apparently, is NOT direct!  :)
