Spanish La Liga: Deportivo vs Barcelona – First Half Report (Part 2)
The home team got a wonderful chance during the 22nd minute. It was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Laure-c21726 towards Adrian – the striker who scored 5 goals in only 2 games. However,
the ball was headed by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gerard-c14664 Pique headed the ball wrong way and it fell right at the feet of Adrian who failed to finish the move off and could not find the back of the net. A great opportunity was wasted by
the star striker of the home side.
The Catalan Giants finally made a breakthrough and it took them 25 minutes to break the Deportivo defensive walls. The goal came from a player who has scored the highest number of goals against Deportivo compared to all other plays in the La Blaugrana. It
was the 150th first division goal for the Spanish striker. The Argentinean maestro http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629 who made
no mistake while finishing and got the ball past the goalkeeper by shooting it between his legs.
Barcelona could make it 0-2 in the La Coruna as they had a fantastic chance from the counter attack that they made during the 35th minute of the game. With the Spanish champions struggling while being away from home, they were trying too much
to out-pace the oppositions’ defensive walls. Eric Abidal had the ball at his feet on the left flank and he passed it towards David Villa who had a clean shot on goal. However, the Spaniard's shot deflected off even though Lionel Messi was open for him to
pass the ball to.
Later, after only three minutes, Eric Abidal had another chance but this time to score. It was a “wonder ball” from Lionel Messi towards the Frenchman who actually did finish well to make it 0-2 for his team and thus add the second goal to his Barcelona
career. However, the referee ruled the goal out because of an offside. It was a very close call by the linesman; Eric Abidal seemed to be very much onside when the pass was played but still there was no protest from the Spanish champions.
A minute of extra time was awarded by the fourth official as both the teams played fairly and not even a single yellow card was so far given out by C. Delgado Ferreiro. That was not a surprise because both these teams are currently holding the “best” disciplinary
record in the Spanish La Liga.
At the end of first half, Barcelona were winning the game with a single goal that came from the Deportivo hunter David Villa – the striker who has managed to find the back of the net 12 times this season, including the goal that he scored today.
