Spanish La Liga News: Sevilla’s Luis Fabiano on his way to Marseille; Andres Iniesta hungry for more
Brazil’s striker Luis Fabiano is believed to be on the brink of completing a surprise move to French side Olympique Marseille by the close of the week. The deal is believed to be in process and the formalities between the two clubs have already been finalized.
Marseille had long been interested in signing the Brazilian front-man from Sevilla. Fabiano’s agent has also confirmed the deal and said that it is a matter of time before the deal is declared official.
Marseille have been looking to fill the gap in attack, with their striker Mamadou Niang believed to be on his way out of the club. The club said that Fabiano would be a perfect fit for the club, and they would love to have him in the squad before the new season begins.
Marseille’s General Manager Antoine Veyrat is also believed to have made a trip down to Spain to hold talks with Sevilla officials to give final touches to the deal.
Fabiano is hot property right now, but Marseille would be apprehensive because he did have a spell in French football earlier with Stade Rennais back in 2000-01, which was quite disappointing.
Meanwhile, Andres Iniesta, Spain’s World Cup hero, has said that he does not expect the standards at Barcelona to drop in the new season. He said that winning trophies is what Barca is all about, and there is no reason why they would change their game play at all. Iniesta said that winning is a habit and now the whole team has gotten into that mind-frame; he said that the mindset of the team is to win at all costs and that is the force that has been driving them in recent times.
The young Spanish midfielder has won all there is to win at a very young age (he is 26 years old). He won the Champions League twice with Barca, and the Spanish La Liga multiple times; add to that a two-time Spanish Cup win. On the international front, he won the European Championship with Spain in 2008, and just recently, he scored the winning goal in the World Cup final against the Netherlands for his country.
However, he says that so much success at a young age does not mean that a player may not be motivated to go on for more; he added that once a player has the taste of success, the only thing he wants is more of the same. He said that the team that he has with him at Barcelona is probably the best the club has ever had. Iniesta believes that this team has the chance to make history on more than one front and would continue to move forward with the same vigour.
Wayne Rooney said that Iniesta is the best player in the world; these comments came after Barcelona outplayed Manchester United in the Champions League final back in 2009. Iniesta has rated the final against United in Paris as one of his greatest wins.
Iniesta believes that Pep Guardiola is the best man for the job of head coach. He added that the addition of David Villa will add a lot more to the team. He said that the style of Barcelona is pretty much the same as the Spanish national team. Iniesta said that this is one of the reasons why Spain did so well in the world cup. He said that most of the national team was from Barca and that is why there was not too much of a problem when it came to adapting to Del Bosque’s style of play as compared to Guardiola’s.
