Spanish La Liga – Real Zaragoza vs. Real Madrid – Second Half Report (Part 1)
With the second half starting, Real Zaragoza looked to be pressing more as they were playing a high defence line. It was definitely a risky move with quick strikers like Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria on the other side. While
performing under the Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, the striking force of Real Madrid learned to counter attack even better than before.
As the bottom of the table side was concentrating a bit too much on attacking yet again to get rid of the two goal margin that Real Madrid managed to take during the first half, it was Real Madrid who took advantage of this. The
quick-paced Real Madrid strikers were being troublesome for the first two minutes of the game and after only three minutes, it was seen that Zaragoza’s defenders were simply not as quick as Cristiano Ronaldo or the Argentinean winger Angel Di Maria.
It was a wonder ball from the Spanish holding midfielder and the former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso towards Angel Di Maria. The Spaniard gave a pinpoint long ball towards the Argentinean winger, who made a fantastic run from the
centre of the pitch. Di Maria found the ball right at the perfect height as the Zaragoza goalkeeper made his way towards him to tackle the ball. The Argentinean striker simply chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to find the back of the net as Real Madrid
managed to take their lead to three goals only after three minutes of the second half.
With Real Madrid taking the lead to a level at which they could simply move the ball around, they tried to keep the ball to themselves and kept most of the possession of the ball. However, now it was the home team that was relying
too much on counter attacking football while the Los Blancos were trying to hold the ball to themselves. Real Madrid were dominating in terms of goals, shots on target and possession during the 52nd minute of the game as Real Zaragoza were making
a move forward to score a goal.
Finally, the Real Zaragoza captain, Gabi got the ball at his feet inside the penalty area and passed it on towards Nicolas Bertolo who decided to dribble past the whole Real Madrid defence. The Zaragoza striker was fouled by Ricardo Carvalho, who was seen tripping
the Spaniard and the home team finally had the chance to get back into the game through a penalty kick.
The team’s captain, Gabi was also the one who was to take the spot kick as he stepped forward to face Iker Casillas in a one-on-one penalty shoot contest. The Real Zaragoza man sent Iker Casillas the wrong way as the Real Madrid
captain dived towards his right while the Real Zaragoza captain shot towards the bottom left corner to make the score line 1-3. The Zaragoza team did not celebrate as they quickly picked the ball up and returned to their half so that the game could continue
as soon as possible.
