Spanish La Liga: Sporting Gijon 0-2 Valencia
Valencia scored twice, in the opening ten minutes of their match, to beat Sporting Gijon by a score line of two goals to nil. This victory helped Valencia continue their highly impressive run to the new season, which in earnest no one could have accurately
predicted.
The goals were scored by Mehmet Topal and Roberto Soldado that helped secure Valencia's fourth win in their opening five games in the Spanish Primera Division. The win also saw Valencia, become the new leaders in the title race, for the Spanish La Liga title.
However that could prove to be temporary as Real Madrid who are now level on points with Valencia are yet to play their match.
Valencia had anticipated that they would be tested ruthlessly by Sporting, since the home side is considered to be one of the toughest in the league to beat, at their home stadium. Despite that fact, Valencia killed the game in the opening ten minutes, with
their first two opportunities at goal.
Topal was the scorer of the first goal on the night, on the seventh minute mark. Manuel Fernandez delivered an inch perfect cross which was met by the players head.
The midfielder was allowed ample of space to time his run and head an impressive attempt at goal. His header was hit with precision and power and allowed the goal keeper, Juan Pablo Colinas with no chance at getting his hands on it, to try and keep it out.
Sporting were not very pleased to concede the early goal and their misery was made even worse just three minutes later. Valencia attacked from the left flank, with Juan Mata being the creative genius, who delivered an impeccable ball that could have threaded
a needle into the path of an unmarked Soldado. The player was left open in front of the Valencia goal, due to the perfection of the pass and had the simple task of taping the ball into the back of the net.
That goal saw the away side take two goal advantage in the night which cause the hosts trouble as the match had spiraled out of their control.
However Sporting didn't give up right away they tired to get back into the game on numerous opportunities. David Barral came the closest with the post as he hit numerous efforts that went just narrowly wide from the wood work.
Despite their efforts, Sporting just couldn't manage to get anything back on the night and Valencia took home the three points, after another impressive win.
Valencia have been doing tremendously well this season, considering the team was facing bankruptcy at the end of last season and were forced to sell their star players like David Villa and David Silva.
Despite that fact, Valencia have managed to recover from the loss of those two players and have now formed a team based on team work and playing beautiful football. Many experts believe that if Valencia can keep this form up, they could go on to be the unlikeliest
of winners of the Spanish La Liga at the end of the season, ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
