Spanish La Liga special: Top transfers of the season (Part 1)
The Barcelona-Real Madrid duopoly continues to lead the transfer market. Where the two clubs spent a mammoth 371 million Euros last season, this year was rather quiet but the two horses still managed to shell out 152.5 million Euros.
Barcelona brought the world class David Villa in a move that cost Blaugrana 40 million Euros, while Real Madrid shelled out 81 million Euros for the likes of Mesut Ozil, Angel Di Maria, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sami-Khedira-c32325 and Ricardo Carvalho. The likes of Valencia, Atletico Madrid
and newly promoted sides also managed some quality business over the summers. Betto.con now analyses the transfers that happened in La Liga.

Transfer price: Eight million Euros
When Jose Mourinho arrived in Madrid, he made a couple of phone calls. A short duration call to London must have been one of those.
The relationship between these two Portuguese dates back to 2002, when Jose was in charge of the Dragons. These two have an excellent relationship and won the UEFA Champions League for the Portuguese club in 2004. Following Mourinho’s appointment as the
head coach of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, Carvalho was one of Mourinho’s first signing. These two men understand each other extremely well.
Jose was appointed the manager of Los Galacticos earlier in the summer and the singing of Ricardo Carvalho was again one of his priorities. The fact that Mourinho was willing to pay eight million Euros for a thirty-two-year-old defender, goes a long way
in explaining the trust Jose has in the defender’s abilities.
Judging from the first six months of La Liga (Real Madrid) action, one has to say that it was an eight million very well spent. Carvalho has brought around a sense of calm to a previously floppy Real Madrid defence. His ability to read the game to perfection
– a trait not so common in modern game – is a breath of fresh air. Impressive still, Carvalho has managed to teach http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-c29670 a thing or two about playing the central defender.
Carvalho has been a rock in the heart of Los Merengues defence and his presence will be a crucial factor when Real go deeper into Champions League.

Transfer price: Eight million Euros
We have yet another eight million Euros man in our list. Valencia sold the David combo (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629 and David Silva) to Barcelona and Manchester City respectively. David Villa has been among the top three strikers in the world for the past couple of seasons
and replacing a man of his pedigree is not a petty task.
However, Valencia seems to have managed just that with the capture of Soldado. Brought from Getafe for just over eight million Euros, Soldado found life hard at Mestalla in the early goings. To his credit, the forward has found his feet in recent months
and has scored an impressive five goals in 13 league outings. Furthermore, the striker has managed to better his league scoring form on continental stage; Soldado has scored an impressive five goals in five Champions League appearances. With Los Che having
qualified for the round of 16 in the Champions League, Soldado will get a chance to test his skill against the best of defenders.
