Spanish La Liga weekly round-up – Atletico Madrid
The team that is known as the “other” Madrid side in the Spanish La Liga was definitely finding it hard to survive when the season started. They suffered with a few early losses and couldn’t find the right footing on the points table. They were 13th
in the Spanish La Liga table for the start of the season until they finally found form and got three wins back-to-back to reach the sixth spot on the points table.
Atletico Madrid were considered favourites to retain their Europa League title but they faced early exit after the sudden dip in form. Their “main-man” Diego Forlan needed rest after having an extraordinary FIFA World Cup 2010 campaign. The Uruguayan striker
was given the required rest during the start of the season and that was the basic reason behind the team’s dip in form. However, with his return, the goal scoring form returned and the team finally got back on track in the Spanish La Liga.
Atletico Madrid faced Hercules last week and suffered a terrible confidence-shattering loss. Hercules have been the surprise package of the Spanish La Liga this season they have been extraordinary even though they are being considered as the underdogs. Hercules
returned to the Spanish La Liga in style as they managed to defeat Barcelona in their home ground, the Nou Camp during the second week of the league.
Hercules again managed to defeat Atletico Madrid. The newly promoted Spanish La Liga side won the game 4-1 and totally thrashed Atletico Madrid and their chances to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season. The Madrid team is trying hard to reach
the European spot but from the looks of it they might just fall back to compete in the Europa League all over again.
During the midweek Copa Del Rey fixture, Atletico Madrid were involved in a derby game. The good news for the fans is that they will get to see the Madrid derby four times this season – twice in the Copa Del Rey and twice in the Spanish La Liga. Atletico
Madrid had a chance to prove themselves against Real Madrid in Santiago Bernabeu, but they failed against Jose Mourinho’s men.
It was the Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan all over again who managed to find the back of the net during the 7th minute to pressurize the home team. However, a perfect header from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-Ramos-c33096 was enough to give the home team confidence to start
a comeback. Later, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629 scored a goal, making it 2-1, and while the underdogs tried to call the game off at 2-1, the German midfielder Mesut Oezil scored the third goal to give Real Madrid a two-goal advantage before heading towards Atletico Madrid’s
home ground for the away leg.
Atletico Madrid have suffered two losses in one week and they are definitely going to try and win against Michael Laudrup’s Mallorca. Mallorca are trying their best to get back to the top four of the Spanish La Liga and this is definitely going to be a hard
fixture for the “other” Madrid side to win.
