Spanish Men’s team defeat England 2-0 in second friendly match played in Terrassa, Spain
The Spanish athletes defeated their English counterparts by 2-0 in their second friendly match which was played in Terrassa, Spain.
The match was the last practice game for the Spanish Men before the upcoming EuroHockey Nations Championship which is going to be played in Monchengladbach, Germany from August 20 and will be concluded on August 27 in which all of the top European teams
will compete each other for the title as England will defend their title which they had won in 2009.
The match was quite a close contest as both the teams played wonderfully throughout the match with evenly balanced possession of the ball and creating some good scoring opportunities. However, it was Spain, the hosts, which showed their superior skills over
the English Men and scored two goals, a single strike in the each half.
In the first half the Spanish Men took the lead early when Alex Fabregas scored the opening goal of the match on a penalty corner which lasted till the interval. The remaining part of the first thirty five minutes was played even more tightly but without
any further strike.
In the second half both the teams looked even more aggressive as compared to the first one but no strike was made and the match entered into its last moments where Spain, once again found the way to the English net and scored the second goal just before
the match concluded.
Meanwhile, in the first of these two friendly matches, the Spanish Men defeated the English outfits even in a more convincing manner as they scored three goals, one more than in this match, whereas their opponents could not score even a single goal in the
entire time.
The Spanish Men remained more dominant throughout the match, especially in the first half where they made a double strike while their third goal was scored in the second part of the game whereas their contenders remained goalless throughout the match in
spite of some good efforts. The game was started on a slow tempo but it picked the pace as the time passed and both the teams started creating some good chances moving the ball between the players and creating short passes. The English Men seemed more clinical
in their defence as they protected their goalpost for most of the time in the first half.
However, it was Spain who eventually succeeded in bringing the result to their favour and scored two wonderful goals before the interval, thanks to Alegre and Santi Freixa David. The third Spanish goal was scored in the second half when Roc Oliva beautifully
converted a penalty corner into goal.
