Spanish Open 2012: Beatriz Corrales ousts Sashina Vignes Waran in Women’s Singles quarter-final
Spain’s talented female player Beatriz Corrales entertained her home fans as she occupied her berth in Women’s Singles semi-final after showing a strong character in quarter-final battle where she overpowered Sashina Vignes Waran of France at Spanish Open
2012 in Spain, on Saturday, May 19.
Beatriz, who is seeded at number 8 in Women’s Singles main draw, put up stunning show and ousted her higher ranked opponent Sashina who was fourth seed in the tournament.
The lower ranked local shuttler put up wonderful show and overpowered her French rival in three games by consuming 45 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the fourth seeded Sashina played top quality badminton in opening set but failed to maintain her form in the following games and lost the fight in hard-fought three games.
Beatriz found a quivering start in the opening rallies of first game and remained struggling in the court.
In the meanwhile, the higher ranked French shuttler put up spectacular show of elevated badminton and remained ahead on the board until the break.
After the interval, the Spanish shuttler tried to match the pace of her rival but failed to play positive badminton and lost the first game with a one-sided score of 12-21.
In the second game, Beatriz changed her tactics and played with variations in her shots and remained in control this time.
Until the mid-game break in second game, the local shuttler was leading with a reasonable margin on the board.
After the break, Beatriz continued her positive and stunning performance in the court and remained successful in winning the second set with a margin of 21-16.
In the deciding game, Sashina tried to take an early advantage but failed to outplay her Spanish opponent who was playing positive badminton.
On the other hand, Beatriz remained positive in the entire final set and did not commit any mistake.
The eighth seeded Spanish shuttler was fully focused in the game and took the deciding set with a wonderful 21-16 score on the board.
Beatriz emerged as the winner in this interesting Women’s Singles battle with a superb score of 12-21, 21-16 and 21-16.
