Spanish Open: Gregory Bourdy on the top at the end of the second round
Gregory Bourdy shot a 6-under 66 in the second round of the Spanish Open, finishing on the top of the leaderboard on Friday.
The 30-year-old French golfer amazed the spectators by making eight tremendous birdies. He was unstoppable throughout the second day, at the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla in Seville, Spain.
In the first round, the Frenchman faced difficulty scoring due to unfavourable weather conditions. He scored a 1-over par and finished lower on the leaderboard.
The weather in Seville was tougher on Thursday. The winds were blowing across the course and wet grass was also making the speed of the ball slow. Bourdy was uncompetitive on day-one, made four birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys.
Then in the second round on Friday, he displayed an amazing performance and competed well till the end of the day. He started the round with a birdie and ended by hitting par on the 18th hole.
He shot four birdies and one bogey on the front nine holes of the course. Then he improved his performance and added four more impressive birdies and one bogey. He reached the top of the leaderboard, gaining a one-stroke lead over Simon Dyson who stood at
the 2nd spot.
“I've just been patient," said Bourdy. "I've not made a score like that for a long time in these conditions. It's good for the confidence. I'm very happy about this round, particularly in these conditions. I made eight birdies and just two bogeys”.
He added: "Yesterday one over was not so bad in that wind, but today (Friday) I played really well, I felt comfortable and very solid, very consistent and I also made some important putts, so I'll try to keep going like this".
Dyson shot a 3-under 69. He scored three birdies, two bogeys and finished the round by making a 12-footer eagle on the 9th hole.
He is currently sharing the second leaderboard position with Matteo Manassero, Robert Rock and Jorge Campillo. They all are just one stroke behind the leading position and are giving a tough time to the Frenchman Bourdy.
If Bourdy manages to maintain his leading position then he will have to show some more skills in the third round. The game-play on Saturday is not so simple and all the second position holders will give their best to snatch the top spot.
