Spanish Primera Division – Match Preview: Real Sporting de Gijon versus Valencia C.F
Sporting de Gijon host Valencia for their fifth Spanish league match of the season as the Rojiblancos look to get their season back on track after a massively disappointing start. It has not been a good start by any means for Sporting,
who finished fifteenth in the Spanish Primera League season of 2009-2010. This season their manager, Manuel Preciado would be looking to improve on that finish but unfortunately from their performance so far, they have looked like relegation material.
In their opening league match of the Spanish Primera Division, Sporting faced a Sergio Aguero and Forlan charged Atletico Madrid. Atletico totally ripped through Sporting’s almost non-existent defence and in doing so they achieved
four goals to nil victory of the Gijon club. In their second match of the season, Sporting hosted RCD Mallorca, this match saw Manuel Preciado’s men put in a brave performance due to which they were successful in getting all three points from the match. Mallorca
were defeated by a score line of two goals to nil.
Next in line were Athletic Bilbao for Real Sporting, who were high on form and morale. Bilbao eventually played out a two all draw with Fernando Llorente’s club as the encounter ended at the score line of 2-2. It was an effective
yet efficient performance by the Rojiblancos, however in their latest match in the Spanish football league, Sporting succumbed to a one nil defeat against a Barcelona team which was without their star winger, Lionel Messi. It was a disappointing loss for Sporting,
who looked like a good team throughout the match but an outfit who lacked that cutting edge and quality to break down Barcelona.
Currently, fifteenth in the Spanish league table, Sporting have drawn one, lost two and won one of their total four matches this season. They have four points from these four matches and have a goal difference of negative three. When
Valencia come to visit the El Molinón, this difference can suffer another huge blow as the men Los Che’s have been in terrific form this season. In the summer transfer window of 2010, Valencia parted ways with two of their most influential footballers. First
one was David Villa, whose sale to Barcelona came through due to the incredible amounts of debts that Valencia was facing in the financial arena of club football. David Silva followed his compatriot in a move away from the Mestalla stadium but the winger moved
to Manchester City in the English Premier League.
After losing two of their best players, Valencia were considered by many to be a finished force before the season kicked off but the likes of Joaquin Sanchez, Pablo Hernandez, Mata and Vicente have shown that the men in white and
black are not to be written off as they disposed of Malaga in their first league match of the season. Valencia also won their second league match against Racing Santander albeit by a single goal. In their third league match, Valencianistas faced Hercules;
the newly promoted Spanish side was defeated by a score line of two goals to one by Valencia. Emery’s team proceeded to draw their last league match against Atletico Madrid. However, they are favourites to win against Sporting despite the fact that they are
playing away from their home stadium.
Presently, Valencia are second in the Spanish league table and unbeaten in their last four matches. They have amassed ten points from four games so far and have a goal difference of positive four. In their last eight meetings with
Sporting Gijon, Valencia have only won three matches while Sporting have won two, the rest have all ended in draws for both the Spanish clubs. Sporting’s last win against Valencia came way back in 2008 as this corresponding fixture ended as a one all draw
in the 2009-2010 Spanish Primera Division season.
