I'm partially bilingual, however, I want to have a career as a translator. I am taking some Spanish Courses but after that where do I go?Is it good to have some kind of Certification or Degree? What school would be the best to go to? Do I have to take a State test to translate in a medical office? I have so many questions and not really sure WHAT to do next!

  1. most states offer you a chance to take a test that certifies you are bi-lingual (that is if you take a city, county or state job). Private companies may ask you to do the same. Not just speaking the language but being able to read and write the language is needed also.

  2. Once you have the courses on your degree,to prove that you are literate in another language to a prospective employer, then go wherever the language is spoken frequently and practice with the people. Spanish is easy to practice because lots of people around the world speak it. To become fluent in a 2nd. language, you need to be able to think in that language without translating in your mind. Practice is the key.
