Spanish Women beat Italy 4-0 in EuroHockey Nations Championship in Monchengladbach, Germany
The Spanish Women defeated their Italian counterparts by 4-0 in their opening Pool A match of the GANT EuroHockey Nations Championship (women), played at the Warsteiner HockeyPark in Monchengladbach, Germany on Saturday, August 20.
The Spanish Women dominated the entire match from the starting whistle till the end by scoring two goals in each of the two halved whereas their Italian opponents could not score a single goal in the entire match. The Spanish ladies played beautifully in
the entire match and did not let down their pressure on from the opponents. They were very elegant in their efforts during the scoring and proved no match for the Italians.
The first half started on a high tempo as the Spanish Women took only four minutes to entertain the spectators and opened their account in a fine fashion when Berta Bonastre scored a wonderful field goal and put Spain ahead of their rivals in the 4th
minute. In the remaining time of the first half the Spanish ladies had to work very hard to tick the board once again. They had to wait till the 30th minute to score their second goal of the match when Barbara Malda scored the second goal for the
Spanish Women, a wonderful field goal with an individual effort. The score lasted till the interval as both the teams went for break with the score 2-0 to Spain.
In the second half the Italian Women showed some improved play as compared to the first thirty five minutes as they were remained more disciplined in the second half. The Italian Women kept the Spanish athletes away from their circle for most of the time
in the seconds half and did not allow them to do any further damage till the later part of the second half. They too created their chances but they remained goalless throughout the match.
However, it was the 58th minute when the Spanish Women once again looked in action with Silvia Munoz converted a penalty corner quite easily into their third goal. Soon after the third the Spanish Women did not wait too long in bringing their
fourth and the final goal of the match. It proved just a matter of one minute when the Spanish Women scored another field goal. Barbara Malda once again was the contributor for Spain. The match was concluded at 4-0 to Spain, a very well deserving victory.
The Spanish team put in a brilliant performance as they managed to restrict the Italian’s offence from scoring any goals throughout the entire match. The Italians will be looking to improve their performance in their next match-up.
