  1. Sadly cruelty to animals happens in every country in the world , I would doubt what you read is true, I mean if anyone is gonna be the worst to horses it's got to be the french right?

As long as you look after your own animals right, then you are doing the right thing and try to not think about all the other wicked people who abuse animals because there is not much you can do about it and you could torture yourself thinking about it

  2. I think it is everyone. It might be more spanish people abuse horses then anyone welse but that does not mean everyone!

  3. maybe they are actually from Cuba and this is a communist plot.

  4. some people think that what they see or the training methods that are used are cruel and to the layman or someone who doesn't know horse training they perceive that the methods used are cruel, however some methods that look cruel are a necessary part of the training to teach a horse to move a certain way.my ancestors are from Spain and we raised Andelusians in the Burgos/Valladolid area and i was taught in the spanish tradition of training horses,i was also taught by old cowboys who use the old spanish training techniques.people sometimes learn the wrong way to train a horse and that is a shame but some so called trainers put a black eye on the good ones and nationality doesnt come into play when pointing out bad trainers but Spaniards have been training horses since the moors brought them into the country so i would say they have just a little knowledge about training horses.

EDIT:there is a differance between SPANISH and MEXICAN (two different continents)and i wont tell you what true Spaniards call mexicans.

  5. Spanish do usually treat horses worse just because they are usually working with horses like racing... which usually horse arent treated very great in racing! It isn't just spanish though usually in the racing bussiness there are more spanish thats the only reason tho!

  6. Well, I agree with you. Every country abuses all sorts of animals. But most people see that horses are easy to abuse because they get scared more easily and usually don't do anything about it.

  7. Sadly where ever you find humans and animals there will be abuse.  Not all humans abuse animals and not all animals are abused.  It is a personal thing, not a political thing, it is individuals that do the abusing not a governing body of any particular country.  True some countries have stricter laws to try and prevent the abuse but that is not to say that one country stands first and alone as an "abuser"

  8. theres people all over the world abusing horses though lack of understanding, poverty or just because theyre plain evil. its not fair to pinpoint it to one nationality because unfortunateoy it happens all over the world often rght under peoples noses. :(

  9. Riding in spain was when i really began to understand riding and made a huge improvement while over there

and the yard there was the most impressive I've ever seen interms of caring for horses

it depends on the individual and the culture of the country-you see people using donkey's in particular for carrying obsene weights but they do that because there is no other means of transportation so it depends=]

    hope that helps

  10. I think it is everywhere!!!! I would think Mexico. I have been there many times & there animals are treated AWFUL!!!!!!!!

    ~~ To Hold my paw~~~~

Why the French?? Why do you think they are the worst????

    ****EDIT*****

I am going to agree a twitch is not cruel if used correctly. & Some horses you have to do that to help them, shots, teeth, hooves etc etc. So there is nothing wrong with them!! Some people need to educated themselves on that tool.

  11. I think we are about the best country for caring for animals and I wish other countries would follow suit. It's heartbreaking to hear and see how some people treat them. I've been in Spain, Turkey, and Greece and have been appalled at their attitude towards all kinds of animals.

  12. Yes they do,

Its more the sports/traditions they have

    horse tripping, horse fighting, etc.

  13. It might be Spain this week and Timbuktu the next.  Media feeding frenzy.  I know cruelty exists in every country and culture.  No-one is better than the other.

  14. I think it is bs..everyone nationality abuses horses.  Some pple may think that the spanish do because some pple train the horses harder. personally i think the modern day cowboys r more rough on the horses thats y im a=having a spanish guy train my two fillies

  15. Unfortunately animal abuse is not uncommon in most countries and I don't believe that the Spanish are any better or worse than others. They are somewhat behind the US and Great Britian when it comes to animal protection laws, but attitudes towards what constitutes proper care of animals is certainly shifting in Spain.

When I was there, I spent a week doing equestrian training on Majorca and the horses that I was around were all extremely well cared for, pampered creatures. Even the carriage horses that I saw in Seville and Madrid were all in excellent condition. And there are an increading number of animal rights and welfare activists in Spain.

At to Sue G - what you're talking about is using a twitch and it's a fairly common way to restrain an horse for a medical procedure or shoeing if the horse tends to struggle. It's uncomfortable for the horse, but it keep him focused on his nose and not the shot or the farrier. If used incorrectly it can seriously hurt a horse but in knowlegable hands, it's a very valuable tool. Better to cause the horse a bit of momentary discomfort keeping them still rather than let them get injured fighting having their feet trimmed.

  16. i think there are good and bad in all races, nationalities and religions.. the thing is its probably more reported over there where here you only hear of the real bad cases.. dont take it personally..

  17. ive never heard this but maybe in history it was common as apart of culture. but i think alot a spainsh ppl luv thier horses, at least the ones i know. ppl of all races abuse aminals in the most terrifyin ways so no i dont think its jus the  spanish its us as the human race.

  18. My crystal Ball says Signs Point To Yes ....!

  19. i lived in spain for 3 years and i did witness spanish people abusing horses and when i said something, they laughed at me and said you english, you are in spain now and our ways are different, like how they have a tight rope around the horses nose and twist it, just to keep them still for things like injections or even things as simple as shoeing them, sorry

  20. Why should Horses have any more rights than Bulls?

    People's priorities are screwed nowadays.

  21. i kno. i found that too!!

  22. There are good and bad in every ethnic group.  If you and your family are exempt from the spanish abuse group, good for you.  I can share with you some experiences at Paso Fino shows, probably 99% latin owners.  It was horrifying and I had to leave because I couldn't stand to watch anymore.  I was on the grounds for another purpose, not the show.  The horses were in horrible pain from really bad shoeing and bits and tack.  Their heads and tails were tied in horrible fashion.  When you walked through the stables, the horses were bobbing and weaving and cribbing and windsucking.  One poor horse was weaving so badly, I had never seen anything like it.  Then his owner approached his stall and I understood why he was weaving toward the back of the stall because his owner was hitting him in the face because he was weaving.  I heard owners talking about the extremes they go to to keep their horses from cantering because is causes problems with their fino gaits - ridiculous.  I can't even get started on the horrors of what was going on with their feet and their shoes.  These horses were in so much pain.  I thought they all needed to be rescued.  Do you know what a "mexican rodeo" is - popular in Texas and Mexico.  Again, too many horrors visited on these poor horses.  These people should be shot after being hung (the rodeo people I mean).  Such is what I have SEEN from the spanish/latin/horse scene.  I'm sure not everybody is like this, but there is A LOT of this going on.  As long as there is big money in horses, there will be abuse by humans from all groups.  All you can do is speak out against it, try to make changes if you can, and protect your little corner of horse eutopia.  Being mortified, does not change REALITY.
