  1. Shops are shut in most places in Spain on a Sunday and Saturday afternoons (the latter only applies to smaller businesses).

It is bank holiday in Spain on Wednesday 19th, Thursday 20th and Friday 21st March.

Monday is a normal working day.

  2. Let's see, depending on where you are, of course....if today is Palm Sunday, you may find everything closed for the next week!  Except maybe for grocery stores, and the bars, and restaurants will be open, but you may not find a lot of shops open, as the whole week is a bank holiday...Semana Santa...

I actually don't recall what stays open, but I'd be willing to bet most of the more mundane shops will remain closed all week...touristy places, may be hit or miss.

  3. I live on the coast and normally the shops close on a Sunday (I am pleased to say!), but strangely many of the larger shops have opened!!  We spent the day with a drink before lunch on the beach, husband made paella then coffee and drinks with Spanish friends before a short siesta....life is good!!

  4. Today is Palm Sunday . Shops do tend to close in Spain on sunday's , so even more so today. They will also be closed on thursday  and friday.

  5. Most of the shops are shut in Spain on Sunday's. They are still quite religious and like to keep them for this reason.

If you go to popular holiday resorts you will find a few open.

  6. Most shops close on Sundays here on the costa del sol, BUT during the summer months when the place is packed out with tourists now many of the supermarkets open on Sundays to accomodate new arrivals at weekends.

The larger markets always close on bank holidays, but some family run businesses might just open until midday.

When you arrive just check with a rep or at the hotel if there are any bank holidays/fiesta days happening during your stay, even if the fiesta is a local one or national day off ask.
