Spanish cyclist Ricardo Garcia wins second stage of Cinturo De L’Emporda 2011 - Cycling Update

Orbea team’s Ricardo Garcia put in a brilliant performance in the second stage of Cinturo De L’Emporda 2011 on Saturday, October 1. Paul Voss took the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
The race started in Sant Esteve D'en Bas and finished in La Jonquera. The Spanish cyclist took the fastest time of 4 hours, 14 minutes and 47 seconds to cover the long distance of 170.3 kilometres.
In the last kilometres, Angel Vallejo Dominguez of Supermercados Froiz was in good form and tried to take a lead but grabbed second spot two seconds down to Garcia. Gonzalo Garrido Zenteno of Chile finished third with a difference of 12 seconds.
With 70.3 kilometres to go in Sant Joan Les Fonts, the three cyclists worked hard to make an initial gap of a few seconds over the peloton. The trio included Angel Vallejo Dominguez (Supermercados Froiz), Ricardo Garcia (Orbea) and Gonzalo Garrido Zenteno
(Chile).
However, Garcia launched an attack with Zenteno but failed and Dominguez gained maximum points as he took the first intermediate sprint. In the final kilometres, Dominguez failed to hold his pace and the Spaniard worked hard to cross the finish line first,
ahead of the other cyclist to take victory.
Guerola-Valencia Terra Y Mar team’s Jose Belda Mira tried his best to catch the leading riders but failed to hold his pace and finished fifth with a difference of 46 seconds ahead of Peter Van Dijk.
Robert Partridge (Endura Racing) took the overall sprint standing with 5 points ahead of Stage winner Garcia. Niels Vandyck (Jong Vlaanderen-Bauknecht) took the title of Best Young Rider ahead of Stijn Steels and Jimmy Janssens.
A number of cyclists were disqualified from the stage including, David Velasco Martín, Francisco García Morillas and David Abal Diego.
Paul Voss of Endura Racing team put an excellent performance to take overall standing of 8 hours, 21 minutes and 8 seconds.
Julien Antomarchi (La Pomme Marseille) was in second place with the same time as the German while Niels Vandyck (Jong Vlaanderen-Bauknecht) secured third with the difference of one second.
In the next stage, all the cyclists will cover the distance of 152.7 kilometres between Empuriabrava and Figueres.
