  2. The most prominent difference between "Peninsular" Spanish and American Spanish is the theta.  On all soft cee's and zee's, you make a th sound, (as in the English "the").

    Hather, (as opposed to haser)

    Hitho (not hiso)

also, in some regions, they actually aspirate the H, so that you hear it, as you would in English (after however many years you've been practicing that it's silent).

And in Andalucía, you drop the d between two vowels, and aspirate the s before other consonants.  (so, instead of Cómo está Usted, it's Cómo Ehtá Uhted?)  It's very strange until you get used to it.

There are also many words that you wouldn't use in Latin America.

  3. When you arrive in Spain, get to know other people in your community. Ask around about Spanish lessons. Many local Spanish people give Spanish lessons. If you already speak Spanish this would be an excellent way of getting to know the language to an advanced level. Where I live they charge 5 euros for an hours lesson on an individual basis. Some may even call at your home.

  4. I love this spanish podcast.

    Here is the website: http://www.notesfromspain.com/

Check it out. It really is fun and easy to listen to and there are three levels, beginner, intermediate and advanced!

    Buena Suerta!
