Spanish help just one word?

One of my Spanish teachers told me that both are correct, but I think that more people use "la radio."

You could say it either way.  In some Spanish speaking countries people say el radio, in some they say la radio.

The same goes for el agua, la agua

El mar, la mar, and some others.
