  1. "estar" is basically to be, and it only applies to temporary things.  Like emotions and conditions.  "Soy" is used for permanent things, like where you were born, what you do (profession) or what ethnicity you pertain to.

  2. Ser and estar both mean 'to be' but are used in different situations. The easiest way i thik to explain it is ser is used when something doesnt change for example Soy Lisa ( i am Lisa) i will always be lisa and it will never change but you use estar when things can change for example estoy contenta ( i am happy) i am happt today but i might not be tomorrow. There are acceptions but this is generally the way i use them

  3. Estar and ser both mean "to be" but they describe two different forms of to be. estar is feelings, location and conditions. soy is the yo form of ser, ser is description, where someone is from and occupation. Hope that helps.

  4. 'Estar' means " to be"

Tu tienes que estar aqui [ meaning , "you [have to] be here" ]

    soy means "am"

    Yo soy grande [ meaning ,  " I [am] big " ]

hope this helped a bit =)

  5. Estar and ser are two Spanish verbs that mean "to be" in English, but they are used in different circumstances.

Ser is used to indicate a quality that is not likely to change.  For example, "The river is very wide" would be translated "El río es muy ancho."

Estar is used to indicate a condition which is likely to change.  For example, "Today the river's water is very warm" would be translated "Hoy el agua del río está muy caliente".  This is because the water could be cold next week -- it's temporary.

    Hope that helps.
