Spanish hospital care - is feeding and washing down to the family - if I am alone how will I cope?

I am thinking of retiring to spain but I understand that spanish hospitals are good for medical care but expect family to provide meals and things like bed changing and washing.

I am single so how would I survive if I had to go into hospital there without such support?

  1. Public hospitals provide meals and bed clothing.

Nurses will take care of washing.

  2. Great Hospitals in Spain, your information is wrong

  3. Spanish hospitals are fantastic, I can see the confusion you´re having, family is very close in Spain, my in-laws (spanish) expected me to take turns with them in staying at her bedside everynight while she was recovering from her operation... however while I was there I did absolutely nothing, while there were other families (spanish) that insisted they would do a better job than the nurse, the meals were excellent, the rooms were excellent, a typical ward is set into rooms of 2 beds each has a private bathroom with shower sink and toilet, your room will also get a pay as you go TV, Spanish NHS is like British BUPA, top marks.

  4. you were informed wrong, thats all up to the nurse...the problem is that a lot of elderly people refuse to let them do their job because they want the family to do it....... my grandmother was in the hospital in spain and the nurse did all those things, meanwhile my grandmothers roommate made her daughter do it........ don't worry its their job and they prefer not having the family butting in (lol the nurse loved me because i would never get involed)

  5. Yes - that is my understanding  I would not know what to do
