Spanish newspaper says Fernando Alonso gets the credit for his 2012 performances – Formula 1
Fernando Alonso gets the credit for his lead in the Drivers’ Championship as he has been able to score points and win races even when his team failed to provide him with competitive machinery.
Ferrari have been unable to give Alonso a competitive car throughout the season but that has not stopped the Spaniard from winning races and he has been able to head the standings so far in the season.
Alonso’s teammate Felipe Massa on the other hand has not been able to support him like he was should have. It has put even more burden on the Spaniard to not only earn points for the drivers’ championship but for the Constructors’ Championship as well.
The facts and statistics are backing Alonso, as according to a Spanish newspaper Marca, the Spaniard is getting the most out of the Ferrari that anyone realistically can. The standing the Alonso has at the moment is a strong one when compared with history
as 18 times a Ferrari driver has been in this situation at this stage of the season they have won the Championship.
Given the performances in the season the level of competitiveness, it gives perspective to how well Alonso has driven this year. The performances have been nothing short of brilliant but that does not mean that he has not erred. Alonso has missed the right
tyre strategy twice in the season and with the impact that the Pirelli compound have had over the current season he will make sure not to repeat those mistakes in the races to come.
Alonso left for the summer break knowing he is in the lead but also understanding that he does not have the fastest car on the grid, but that should not deter him from the taking the title as that has been the case throughout the season. Alonso has had to
deal with a less competitive Ferrari although it has come a long way from its early season complexities. The car still requires some updates to keep its position at the top.
If Massa can ably support his teammate Ferrari might be looking to challenge Red Bull for the constructors as well.
