Defending champions Spain were held to a 1-1 by an exciting Azzurri team leaving them complaining against the grounds men in their post match conference.
A second half goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Di-Natale-c6306 sent Spanish fans world over in disbelief only to be woken from their nightmare by Cesc Fabregas minutes later. La Roja players managed to bring back the match to level footing after a mediocre first half, salvaging
a point as the full time whistle was blown.
The post match press conference saw Spanish players complain about the pitch, which was too dry for their liking. Andres Iniesta was amongst the first ones to bemoan about the poor field conditions, claiming that it hindered with their fluid passing movement.
"Seeing the pitch in those conditions is a disaster. It was incredibly dry and that makes circulation of the ball difficult."
On the other hand, Cesc Fabregas took a more cautious approach as he coyly refused to talk about the pitch. However, he could not contain himself and branded the whole affair as ‘shameful’ to play on such a poor ground.
"I can't complain, but we deserved much more," the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 captain commented. "It's shameful that we still have to play on pitches like that."
Xavi echoed the sentiments of his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 teammates, claiming that the pitch was not watered and the resulting dryness affected their style of play in general.
"The fact that they didn't water the pitch persecuted our dynamic and fluid play."
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672 did not see a second on the pitch and was consigned to the substitutes’ bench for the entirety of the match, but could not stop himself from getting on the slam wagon.
The Liverpool custodian was not only displeased with the dry conditions but was also annoyed by the length of the grass.
"We had more of a problem with the pitch. The grass was a little too long and they didn't wet the pitch," the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 custodian said in his post-match press meeting.
The Spanish contingent will hope that the conditions in Gdansk change drastically before their next match aginst http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987 is due on June 14.
