Spanish sounds harshly and sharply to your ears?

Unfortunately, I just found Spanish more harshly & sharply than Italian, French and Portuguese, especially when Spaniards pronounce θ, ð, x, s, that run through the speech. Sometimes it even sounds a little like Arabic, if you listen to the Italian Radio carefully, you're likely to feel that, Italian sounds more latinized than Spanish, because of melodious rhythms, moreover, French and Portugese sound much more softly and mildly than Spanish, although some people don't like nasal sound so much. In fact, I've always wondered whether Spanish could be eulogized as the most beautiful one of Romance languages. Everybody. What do you think about Spanish pronunciation? And I really hope Hispanic people won't join us to talk about it. Thank you very much!

  1. WOAH! 'course not I think its avery beautiful language.

  2. I half agree and half disagree. To be honest with you, I love the Spanish language. It may not sound as romantic as Italian but it's up there. I don't think the language lacks the melodious rhythms that you were saying because if you think about it Spanish songs are just as melodic. I would have to agree that Italian is the most pleasing language to the ears but to say that Spanish is harsh is inaccurate. Try listening to Chinese -- that's what you call harsh and sharp to the ears.

  3. Perhaps your Spanish teacher was harsh and strict?? I am amazed at your statement. Spanish sounds completely melodious to my ears. Portuguese might be a little softer in the sense of mushier-sounding, but my beloved French is certainly crisper than Spanish, and Italian is equally melodious. That there may be the hint of an Arabic lilt to peninsular Spanish only adds to its charm.

By the way, may we inquire what is your own native language? (I deduce from your phrase "found Spanish more harshly and sharply" that it isn't English.) Perhaps that affects your opinion of Spanish?
