  1. Jamaican CITIES are Kingston, Portmore, Spanish Town, Montego Bay. Also, the country is divided into 14 parishes. Each parish has at least one major town that is its capitol. Ocho Rios, Port Antonio, Mandeville and Negril are all major towns (not cities per sey).

Kingston - The current capitol of Jamaica. Population is in the region of 1 million people, with at least 300,000 people going into the city every day from portmore. Kingston is the business centre of jamaica. It is an intense city full of all the jamaican extremes. It is the heart of the international reggae and dancehall music world. The slums in kingston have also been home to numerous major international criminal gangs.

Spanish Town - This town is noted (perhaps erroneously) as a city in Jamaica. It was the first capitol of Jamaica under spanish rule, but never truly had all the facilities to be termed a modern 'city'. This town's rich cultural history under spanish and british rule, has left it full of historic buildings and sites of all kinds. Crime is also a high risk. Extremely violent gangs exist in a delicate balance within the town's crevices and slums. There is an beautiful facade of historic structures, but much of the city beyond its major streets, is dilapidated historic buildings, with many parcels of land 'captured' by groups of poor, economically depressed people.

Montego Bay (Referred to as the second city) - The tourism capital of Jamaica. More than 40 percent of all the major businesses here are designed to serve tourists or to supports aspects of that industry (restuarants, hotels, car rental companies, air charter, ground charter, tours, watersports, entertainment, souvenir shops).

Portmore - The newest city in Jamaica. This development began as a dormitory town and to an extent, still is the largest dormitory town in the Caribbean. About half of its population of about 500,000 people travels to and from the kingston metropolitan area to work on a daily basis.

Jamaica has no more than about 3.5 million people. The official count is 2.7, but its assumed that many people 'dodge' the population researchers.

Climate - It doesnt snow here. Its a tropical environment with sunny days for more than 300 out of every 365 days of the year. Extreme weather variations include hurricanes and tropical depressions/storms. Major hurricanes affecting the island occur at least once every two years, but direct hits are very rare (more than 10 years apart). There are two rainy seasons annually, where you can expect weather to have light to heavy showers for most of the day.
