Question:

Spanish with listening vs Spanish without listening SAT Subject test?

I'm trying to decide if I should take the Spanish with or without listening. I was leaning towards without because I was planning on taking them in October and the listening is in November but I can take it if I want to. I've taken 4 years of spanish at the highest levels offered at my school and I'm going to take Spanish AP next year; I probably will end up taking the AP test.

What are your opinions concerning the listening?

  1. Definately take the listening if it's offered to you and you can take it.  I've taken Spanish for 8 semesters now.  In a few classes, my teachers did not speak it at all, we just learned out of the book, and then in others my teachers spoke the language quite often.  I've gotten more out of some of those classes where the teachers spoke to me than all the other ones put together.  It's a language which is meant to be heard, registered, and then replied to in a conversation.

Listening/verbal learning is actually the fastest way to learn any language.  Why do you think people who go and live in the actual country pick the languages up so quickly? Because they're not learning out of a book.  They're learning from listening and comprehending what the people are saying, and then forming an answer in their head.

  2. if you are a native speaker (wich i dont think u r if u take spanish at school) then deff take the listening. but if you are used to hearing and understand spanish, then u can take the listening. but if october is more convinient for u, then not having the listening wont count against u. it really doesnt matter, colleges wont care either way. by taking the listening, u show colleges that u are even more bilingual. but that fact wont make or break u.

also, u could take it in 2nd semester after all the ap practice.

  3. Take the listening. If nothing else, it'll give you good practice for the AP exam and college courses you will need to take. And anyone can tell you, you'll hear all KINDS of speakers in college. Good Luck!!
