Anyone know the ratchet size for a '97 ninja 500? Ive tried everything i have and nothing seems to fit the plug! I dont understand. 5/8 seems to small for it, 11/16 seems to big, what gives?

  1. 18mm or 5/8 (same thing)

You need a thin wall socket to fit in the recessed spark plug hole.

Use the spark plug socket that's in the bike's tool kit.

  2. There Are 4 different SOCKET Sizes. 9/16, 5/8, 3/4, 13/16.  They all use the SAME RATCHET SIZE (3/8 ")

It needs to be a deep socket to fit the spark plug and preferably padded a bit to keep the plug ceramic from chipping.

  3. Try 18 mm

  4. i say go metric as well... i used all my spark plug sockets on my spark plug, and none of them fit it either... i took it out (there's no room for a wrench to fit, only a socket wrench, so i had to take it out to find out it's size) and put it through the box ends of my metric wrenchs... if i'm not mistaken it was 14mm... (granted i don't own ninja... but a foreign bike none the less... and if i'm not mistaken kawasaki are japanese?)

  5. try metric.
