  1. Better do a compression check> As something happened>That much gap would make for a lot of power loss> But what caused it>???

  2. It may loose power, but probably will still run.  Get a feeler guage and reset the gap.

  3. The cause is, your center electrode is wearing out too fast.  This is typical of NGK plugs in OMC outboards.

The result is, the motor will run like c**p.

  4. You didn't say what kind of motor, but some outboards with electronic ign .use a wide gap plug.  A lot of outboards also smoke excessively when first started, particularly if they've been sitting for sometime.   Check that your using the right plug for the engine.  Keep in mind that some outboards were shipped with surface gap plugs then the Mfg. recommended a different plug.  Only after you've checked this out with the dealers service department, would I start looking at other areas.  OMC had a tune-up in a can, that frees rings etc. You might want to start there.

  5. dude, take out the plugs and tap them on something until they are down to the right gap. use the gapper to check.
