Sparking breath mints?

so i got in a fight with my science teacher about this... how does the lifesaver wintergreen breath mint spark?? how can i do it.... thanks yall!

  1. Alright so I thought I knew the answer to this question but this site I found describes it way better then I could ever do, or wanna do for that matter, make sure you get down to the bottom about Methyl salicylate its important to this.

  2. Sugar crystals are triboluminescent, so they emit radiation when crushed (chewed) or submitted to mechanical stress.  

    The radiation is in the ultraviolet wavelength region, so you can't normally see it.  But with some candy (wint-o-green lifesavers, for example) the substance used to flavor the candy absorbs the UV and re-radiates in the visible wavelength range, so you can see it.

    Try getting some wint-o-green lifesavers, go to a dark room with a mirror, and chew with your mouth open - it should work.
