Sparkling Portrait to shine in the King George V Stakes (Handicap) at Ascot
Competing in the Class 2 King George V Stakes (Handicap) at Ascot over a mile and four furlongs on Thursday, 21st June are nineteen registered three-year-old runners. The prize money set for the race is £34,238.
One of the most promising entries for the race today is Sparkling Portrait, Excellent Art’s three-year-old bay colt out of mare, Time Crystal. His 2012 campaign comprises of three outings out of which, he was the first one through the wire in two.
His welcome race of the season was on 18th April in the Racing UK Handicap at Beverley over a mile and two furlongs. The three-year-old really had to put in all that he had got because the runner up of the race, Rocktherunway, was reeling in at
a slight neck’s difference.
Settling third behind the winner was Indepub while the 3/1 favourite of the race, Gabrial’s Star, ended fifth on the track of eleven.
Next race down the season came his way too. He won the Al Rayan Handicap on 6th May at Newmarket over a mile and two furlongs. Once again the winning pattern for Sparkling Portrait was the same, he yanked away the title by a very narrow margin
of just ¾ of a length.
Finishing the closest was Deia Sunrise while filling up the third slot was Open Water.
Samba King, the 7/2 favourite of the race, concluded the race seventh on the field of ten.
Any possibility to strike a hat trick vanished when the 3/1 favourite of the Totepool.Com Edinburgh Cup (Handicap), Sparkling Portrait, ended sixth on the field of twelve over a mile and four and a half furlongs.
However, taking the final success of the previous season into account, the Richard Fahey trained did strike a hat trick. He cleared the E B F Mirror Punters Club Maiden Stakes on 10th December at Southwell over a mile.
Not only did he get done with the maiden rather he won as the 6/4 favourite and led the runner up of the race, Chankillo, by twelve lengths.
He has not raced at the Ascot before but the fourth outing of the season is giving him the chance to make the most of it.
