I'm going to spar with my buddy in MMA gloves. No elbows, No knees, and the rest of MMA rules. What should I do? Hes like 160 pounds and is like 5'9 while im 5'7ish. I'm only like 130. I'm the better striker. Hes basically a brawler with no experience. I'm geussing hes just gonna run in throwing straights and might take it to the ground. What should I do? Where should I aim? What should I use? And what are some good exersizes I can do before this? Lots of friends are going to be watching lol. Its gonna probly end when someone cant take much more.

  1. Take a martial art.

  2. me and my best friend do the same thing with knees and elbows but without gloves or head shots...him being about 170 me only i35 i know how you feel basically the only thing is keep moving and make very accurate strikes dont just throw anything avoid your back and by no means ever should you allow him to take your back...use your foot work and you should be fine... best of luck though

  3. Hit the solar-plexus when its open, then while your opponent is trying to recover, upper-cut to the jaw.

  4. Even with your confidence in striking, your best bet is going to be submissions. Chokes from behind are relatively easy to get if you can entice your opponent to come in swinging while you duck and shoot for the leg. Your opponent will inevitably sprawl and you can take his back and go for the choke. Other than that keep it close so your opponent can't get too much weight in to his throws.

  5. Watch fights on youtube. I'm serious. it will show you how an untrained person fights. go to youtube, and type in: Backyard boxing. It doesn't take long to learn the weaknesses of the untrained that way. They drop their hands after they punch, they usually can't throw a good straight punch, They don't kick, ect.

Has he ever fought before? If he has NEVER done anything like this in his life, you have a better chance of winning. but if he's fought a couple of times and won, it reduces your chances. Being hit with even a 30% power punch for the first time in your life, you tend to get a little shaken up. I did when I first started kickboxing. If this is the case, he will probably be afraid to be hit and fight like a girl.

  6. in my opinion stick with your stong suit, work angles and outstrike him. dont stand in front of him and he cant take you down. should be failry easy for you.

  7. What type of martial arts are you practicing?  Can you do a sweep without penalty?  I'm a shorty and I did spar with several people, tall men, short women, it didn't matter.  I always stuck low and did an upper cut, or a punch to the side, kidney area.  I also did a lot of fake techniques where I would raise my arm as to do a rising block type of thing to the face, and then do a jab to the midsection when my opponent was off guard.  In one of my matches in a tournament, I fought a girl who kept doing round house kicks and end up turning her back toward me.  So every time she did, I'd score a point off of her kidneys.  Needless to say, I won the round.

I hope some of this helps.  I studied Shotokan Karate.  I was a brown belt.
