Spartak Moscow Valery Karpin’s job hanging by a thread- Russian Premier League news
Spartak Moscow coach, Valery Karpin, has revealed that his job at the club is hanging by a thread and one poor performance could end his reign as the Red-Whites manager. He was talking ahead of his team’s clash with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League Quarter-finals. The game is set to be played on Thursday, the 14th of April at Luzhniki, Moscow.
Karpin admitted that his team performed below par in the first leg of the tie where they lost by a hefty 5-1 margin. The 42-year-old, though, claimed that his team won’t be under pressure against Porto and would be their usual self irrespective of what the final result comes out to be.
He further added that, "The squad is working hard, keen to rectify the poor defeat that occurred last week in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984. I don't think my players are in need of any more motivation especially after the first leg.”
He was grieved after that humiliating loss to Porto in the first leg and was apologetic towards the fans. He now seems determined to fight back in the second leg. Karpin did not rule out the semi-final berth but mentioned that it would be nothing more than a miracle if his team goes through.
He further confirmed that he is on the verge of being sacked and he would not have any regrets over it if the decision is for betterment of the team.
"We have a good side and will demonstrate that the 5-1 doesn't reflect how good we can play. It is true that I am at risk of being sacked, but every coach at any time can also be sacked." He concluded.
Valery Karpin joined the Russian club in 2009 as a caretaker manager. After a string of impressive results, he was appointed as the permanent manager. Where Spartak Moscow finished fourth last season, they are currently 15th in the League table with just one win from four games – not a positive reflection of Karpin’s work with the club.
